12. Team Processing 2 12/1, 4:30p They don't need Crossroads to connect them. They need this place for access to a trained pastor for Bible Study and liturgical worship. The leader - Charisma, energy. He is the key and they know it. The adults think of him as having the energy of the youth. The youth know that he is a trained professional and they know that he is someone to go to in a crisis. Both sides trust him. They like the building as a gathering place - gives them legitimacy, but the community seems to be more important. The council members talked about the church being the people. The young adults talked about it as "the community" Building is right on campus - two blocks away might be too far, it would make a difference in the ministry. This is the place for the mature Christian. Parachurch organizations were for fun and fellowship - kind of a continuation of high school youth group. This mainline place is for depth Sermons and bible studies related to them. He knows current events and relates them to the bible. People felt like the sermon was just for them no matter what their age. Lots of reference to people connections - sharing the peace, communion in a circle, Fred making eye contact, the line waiting to talk to Fred on the way out hospitality How do people get to live there? They must pick people based on hospitality, maturity. These kids are more than just custodians. It's not just the geeky people who are involved there. These are attractive young people with social skills. "If Fred leaves I don't know what will happen" Authenticity. Fred walks the talk. Are people pre-programmed to talk about Fred because there are these review committees since his call is a term call? Some of them have already done those committees so they are primed perhaps Is there anything Fred is not involved in? Residency could continue without Fred, since they clean and care for the place and are hospitable. He has deep and long tentacles into that community, so when he needs something to happen he can get it done right now because he's connected. For example, he's a TKE. Entrepreneurial - it's the key. You can't sit on your assests, you have to get out there and market yourself and your ministry. He can make things happen in the midst of an institution that says, "No." Fred is genuinely passionate about working with this age group and helping them develop spiritual maturity, equipping people for ministry and service in the church. That's what gives him energy, feeds his passion. Fred goes to where the students are. He meets them in the student union, in the classroom, in the dining hall, at service projects. He's not in his office. People are touched by worship, bible studies, and service opportunities. People all come together for service opportunities. Doing that motivates them to serve in the greater community even after they graduate.
